Current Principal Update-April 28, 2011

Sorry for the lag time between updates. We have been working really hard to get
all students tested on the NMSBA. Ms. Kingery (our testing coordinator) has just
recently emerged from the testing room after a solid month of inventorying,
counting, sorting, labeling, etc. However, all of her hard work paid off as our 7
testing days went incredibly smoothly and without any major interruptions. This
was also a result of our amazing faculty being knowledgeable and prepared for this
large undertaking. And lastly, thanks to parents for ensuring that our students
were here on time, rested and ready to go each day.

Based on teacher observations, I am happy to report that Zia students all seemed
engaged and concentrating on all sections of the test. Teachers gave out the
majority of their raffle tickets each day as the students certainly deserved the
opportunity to win a prize. And each testing day concluded with 4-5 students
winning prizes ranging from $35-$300 in value. Even though we will not know our
results until later in the summer, I am confident that our students rose to the
challenge to each make improvement over their score from last year.

With the end of April upon us, there are plenty of upcoming activities that you
may want to take note of. I am sure that this list will expand and possibly
change, but here are some of the things thus far:

April 26-May 13 (MAP testing window)
April 29th: Talent Show
April 30th: SWDNMMEA String solo/ensemble-Vista

I would like to thank everyone for the support and compassion that you continually
give to Zia Middle School. Whether through your hard work with the jog-a-thon,
supporting our teams with their various activities, or rallying to support a
family in need, the Zia community is truly a great place.

Thanks for everything you do!
